Cavalier Marching Band
The band will begin its performance approximately 15 minutes before
kickoff, which will lead into a popular pre-game tradition, "The
Adventures of Cavman." The video will feature new ride sequences
and more football video this season, and of course, Cavman will
vanquish the opponent's mascot before the live Cavalier on
horseback leads the team onto the field!
Traditions
Colors -
Orange and Blue were adopted as the University of Virignia's official
athletic colors at a mass student meeting in 1888
Nicknames -
Virginia's athletic teams have had a somewhat confusing array of
nicknames. The most prominent and widely accept of these monikers:
Cavaliers, Wahoos, Hoos
Cavalier Mascot -
The Cavalier on horseback leads the Virginia football team onto the
field at the beginning of all home games. You can also find Cavman
roaming the field and seats during each home game.
The Good Old Song -
Written in 1893 "The Good Old Song" is UVA's unofficial alma mater.
UVA fans stand and sway, arm-in-arm, singing "The Good Old Song"
after each Virginia score and at the end of the game.
That good old song of
Wah-hoo-wah
We'll sing it o'er and o'er
It cheers our hearts and
warms our blood
To hear them shout and roar.
We come from Old Virginia,
Where all is bright and gay.
Let's all join hands and give a yell
For the dear old UVa
Wah-hoo-wah,
Wah-hoo-wah.
Uni-v, Virginia,
Hoo-rah-ray,
Hoo-rah-ray,
Ray! Ray! U-V-a
"Wah-hoo-wah"
